This is the beginning of your self-discovery journey.
Dr Iuri Conceicao is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in the state of Massachusetts with experience treating adults, adolescents, and elderly individuals. I am a multicultural and bilingual psychologist offering psychological services in English and Portuguese.
My academic qualifications are the following:
Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from California Lutheran University, California, US (PsyD).
Master's degree in psychoanalysis, history and culture from Birkbeck University of London, England (MA).
Master's degree in clinical psychology from the Institute of Applied Psychology in Lisbon, Portugal (MSC).
Master's degree in philosophy from the New University in Lisbon, Portugal (MA).
Post-graduated training in Neuropsychology from the Alcoitao School of Health in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Foundation Course in Psychoanalysis from the London Institute of Psychoanalysis, England.
Advanced course on Existentialism from the University of Oxford, England.
I have 20 years of clinical experience in different countries working in a variety of mental health settings such as private practice, medical settings, psychiatric institutions, community mental health care, and residential treatment centers. I am currently offering individual psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, and elders experiencing anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, loneliness and isolation, life transitions and crisis, immigration, PTSD and trauma, impulsivity, relational and work problems, self-esteem, and identity issues. I completed my postdoc in an eating disorder residential treatment center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where I specialized in treating eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.
My psychotherapeutic style emphasizes an empathic presence and combines psychoanalytical, existential, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) approaches. I focus on developing curiosity about oneself and one's internal world/thoughts/feelings, necessary for emotional growth and transformation. Psychotherapy goals, defined collaboratively, can focus on different levels from symptomatic relief to a deeper understanding of oneself and the meaning of symptoms.
I am very passionate about education and I teach at doctoral, masters, graduate and undergraduate programs in clinical psychology and psychotherapy (biological basis of behavior, history and systems of psychology, psychopathology, psychotherapy, domestic violence, theories of personality, etc).
